43 U.N. Peacekeepers were captured today by Islamic militants in the Golan Heights. Another 81 are believed to be trapped in the area between their two posts of al-Ruwayhina and Burayqa.

The current conflict between Israel and Syria surrounds the Golan Heights, a key piece of historic land that Israel seized from Syria in 1967.

A UNDORF official anonymously confirmed the nationality of the captured Peacekeepers as men and women from the Netherlands, Fiji, India, Ireland, Nepal, and the Philippines.
